New York Fashion Week is well under way and from what I’ve seen there seems to be a 50/50 split between the breathtaking and the absolute bores. In terms of bigger names, I’m finding myself impressed by designers I never would have imagined (Donna Karan) and let down by some of the ones I thought I could always count on (Y-3). This first NYFW post focuses on three of the big names that left an impression. I’ll deliver my faves from the more independent names and presentations at the end of the week–there are still lots of shows to check out and the presentation I’m absolutely dying to see still hasn’t happened yet, as of when I’m writing this on Monday night (Jeantrix!).
My favorite collection so far is Vivienne Tam. I’m a sucker for sharp lines, plaids with edge, and I love the stark yet minimal makeup and hairstyling of the models.
New York Fashion Week gave us some stunning new collections, and in my opinion, a few surprises. I expected to be blown away by The Blonds, as usual, but that ended up not being the case. While their collection was as loud and bold as always, it felt kind of stale–like they were pulling the same old “shocking” tricks without much innovation.
What I also didn’t expect was to be blown away by Anna Sui. Her collection was full of diversity and contrasts–part romantic part playful punk rock.
Anna Sui (more…)
I’m hoping you’ve all been getting a nice hearty dose of delicious eye-candy, by way of the new Fall 2012 collections and presentations during NYFW. There are more than a few designers that have stolen my heart so far, but I seriously narrowed down the list to just three, so that this post wouldn’t go on for an eternity.
Duro Olowu–Eye-popping colors, and oh my gosh, that cape…
