PA Renaissance Fair & Demon Mage Cosplay

November 30, 2013 Posted by rissvandal

Happy Belated-Thanksgiving, everyone ^^ I hope you had a lovely holiday full wining, over-dining, and long, awkward conversations. There are a lot of things I’m thankful for, and right at the top of my list is my large, close-knit family. Every time I visit we try to make it memorable, and one of my favorite family outings this year was to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim, PA.

My family was a little resistant to the idea of dressing up at first, but when I found out they’d booked the trip the weekend right before Halloween, I explained to them that it was non-negotiable–”you have absolutely no choice” I think were my exact words. Though the Renaissance Faire has an obvious, err, Renaissance theme, there are no strict rules you need to adhere to. In previous years I’ve seen everything from Ghostbusters to werewolves to Spock and Kirk galavanting about amidst the jesters and maidens. That being said, my father went as a vampire prince, my mother as a maiden, my grandmother as a glam witch, and I went as a Demon Mage.

Welcome to Creepsville

First off, my suggestion is that you Youtube “Blood in My Eyes” by Calabrese while looking over this post, because it’s the perfect complement to these images of a should-be horror punk frontman.

The pep talk before the shoot went like this: “You’re an undead rockabilly ghoul…go creep around the cemetery like it’s your home.” And then I’m pretty sure the words “look evil, and like you think you’re cooler than everyone” came out of my mouth as well.

McQueen’s Vampiric Pre-Fall 2013 Collection Absolutely Slays (Pun Intended)

January 23, 2013 Posted by rissvandal

First of all, words can not describe how much I am in love with this dark, sleek collection. Second–is there anyone else that can’t help but think of The Volturi (yes, that’s a Twilight reference) when they look at these images, or is it just me?

October Recap: Nonstop Vampire Party

October 31, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

I hope you all had a lovely Halloween : ) To tell you the truth, my Halloween day was actually pretty chill, but that’s mostly because I’ve been celebrating an early, extended holiday for the last two weeks or so. So what was my Halloween costume? Technically I’d say vampire (I was supposed to go with Lydia Deetz but I bought the wrong hat, didn’t realize till the last moment, blah blah blah), but here’s a look at my various costumes from the past few weeks.

I was a vampire.

Daywalkers Don’t Model for Lipservice

October 17, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

How the heck have I gone this long without bringing vampires onto the blog? I have no idea. Recently I’ve been having a lot more fun dressing up dudes than chicks, so I vamped one up to model some of my necklaces.

Me and my model, DJ Laury, headed to a sketchy abandoned building in a cemetery for these pics—though I wasn’t trying to be ultra-creepy, I just like the building. And as far as I know he’s not wearing any Lip Service, but a couple of times he reminded me that he didn’t want to end up looking like one of the awkward male Lip Service models. I love Lip Service, but seriously, check out their male models–super awkward.

The Transformation Continues…

May 30, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

When I first announced I’d be creating a cosplay costume for Wizard World Comic Con, I promised to keep you guys posted throughout the creative process. A lot of people have been asking how the costume’s been going, and if it seems like I’ve been a bit quiet on the subject, I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that the journalist in me has always worked best under pressure, and I really hadn’t done much more than plan until this past week.

Cosplay Adventure Time

April 17, 2012 Posted by fashionvandals

First off, I want to give you a heads up that you should expect a healthy dose of nerdiness in the coming weeks…

The Wizard World comic con I’ll be attending in Philly is just two months away, and after much deliberation, I’ve finally settled on my cosplay choice. My initial thoughts were Lynn Minmei from Macross, Urd from Ah My Goddess, or Lady from Devil May Cry, but I finally settled on Morrigan from the Capcom fighting game, Darkstalkers, but with a twist…
