Model of the Week: Cake Injection

August 15, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

I first noticed Cake Injection because of her name–goes without saying it draws some attention. And while I certainly appreciated the large amount of sweet lolita-esque images in her portfolio, I realized my blog is rather heavy with that sort of imagery, so I was still looking for something to set her apart.

As I took a look at her portfolio and her “About Me,” which is the section where I often hope will be filled with a model’s inspirations and personal philosophy (but is unfortunately often filled with body stats and lists of tattoos), she had this to say:

“I do this because I love to become a new character and jump in their skin for an amazing unique shot…My portfolio is the world I’m lost in.” (more…)

Model of the Week: Maegan Machine

August 1, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Maegan Machine is a model and gothic bellydancer. What exactly is a “gothic bellydancer”? Let me put it in Maegan’s own words: “I try to avoid traditional belly dancing as much as possible by incorporating a bed of nails and my… 4 ft ball python named VooDoo while moving my body to heavy music.”

Model of the Week: Sabina Kelley

July 25, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Pin-up model, Sabina Kelley has been modeling professionally for about ten years, but her career originally began with dance.

From dancing at age two, Sabina eventually found herself performing at the Ballys Hotel in Las Vegas as a showgirl.

Model of the Week: Sophie Nova

July 11, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Sophie Nova is a full-time nude, fetish, and pin-up model who is originally from the UK, but now calls California her home. She was first drawn to the fetish scene at age 17, and began modeling one year later.

Andrej Pejic, You Are One Elegant Man

June 30, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

The other day my friend sent me this article in Fader about MadeMe Clothing’s gender-bending Fall 2011 lookbook, in which male model, Andrej Pejic, sports all of the female clothing. I will say, MadeMe has some pretty nice threads, but I was pretty much entirely fixated on Andrej, a man I consider the picture-perfect portrait of effortless androgyny.

Model of the Week: Keycifer Black, revisited

June 20, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Recently I talked to one of our previous Models of the Week, Keycifer Black. Key is a model and burlesque performer who tours with the troupe, The Peek-A-Boo Review. She’s no stranger to the public eye, as she’s been dancing for years and modeling since she was about 15. I might also mention that Key’s acted in a number of music videos and films, and has a former Miss Catwalk Tragedy title under her belt.

And with that being said, it’s time for Key to enlighten us about the world of burlesque…

What originally got you interested in burlesque?

Cabaret and the circus have always been of interest, so of course it was expected. Independent, strong-willed, “I do what I want and I do it well” women are my idols. It was time to be set free.

Body Painting. I’m semi-intrigued…

June 7, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

I’ve got to admit, I’ve never been a big fan of body painting. Something about it just always struck me as sort of tacky. I haven’t necessarily changed my mind on the subject, but I recently saw these pictures Aprella modeling the body art of Dani Fonseca, and it sort of sparked my interest.

It drew me in enough to work to check out more of Dani Fonseca’s work. It’s just a taste, of course. Here you can see just how intense some of her work gets.

Model of the Week: Chloe Von Creepy

June 6, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Chloe Von Creepy has me intrigued. How could she not when under her occupation description she writes, “I work in the porn industry, but I dont act in the movies (no nudies here!).” What exactly does Miss Creepy do? I have yet to find that out.

Meet Inked and Up-and-Coming Model, Dani B.

May 31, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Meet Dani Bathory: alternative model, writer, music composer, and hip hop artist. You might know Dani from her previous work with the death metal band, The Funeral Pyre, or else maybe you saw her recently featured on MTV’s Fine Ink series, or as Inked Magazine’s Inked Girl of the Day. While certain aspects of Dani’s career are still in the early stages, a lot of things came together for her this year. She released her first single “Your Favorite Bitch,” became a music columnist for Tattoo Hodge Podge, and you can spot her as the star of this year’s Aggrolite’s video, “Complicated Girl.” And, yknow, she also fits a day job in there somewhere…

FV: You told me that your first modeling gig was only about eight months ago, for Tattoo Hodge Podge. When you started out, was modeling something that came naturally to you, or did it take a while to build up a level of comfort?

DB: It did take a little while to get comfortable in front of the camera because that is when you feel most vulnerable. My coworker at the time had been modeling for years and he told me the most important thing to do was just relax…and all the photographers I worked with kept telling me I was a natural, so that definitely gave me a boost of confidence.
