Friday, I’m in Love: Comics, Crystals, and Bad Batz-Maru

February 7, 2013 | Posted by rissvandal

I’ve come across a lot of great finds lately, though not all of them warrant their own post, so today I thought I’d mention a few of the odds and ends I’ve been psyched about and dying to share. I’m thinking this should be a recurring feature–sharing not just my favorite fashion and beauty finds, but anything else that’s made an impression, including from housewares, websites, and maybe even the occasional dose of nerdness.

Bad Kitty Rider Jacket by UNIF Clothing / Badtz Maru Skirt by Japan L.A.

Studded outerwear and biker jackets are basically a wardrobe staple at this point, and are becoming kind of tired, so I’m glad to see that UNIF continues to add variety and innovation to the trend. They have a lot of great designs–studded army jackets, spiked fur coats, but their Bad Kitty jacket is my top pick. As for the Badtz Maru overall skirt…would I wear it? That I’m not so sure about, but I love it. And while a lot of people roll their eyes at grown women rocking Sanrio, why give up something you love just because of age? And if that thing you love just happens to come in the form of a badass miniskirt, even better.

Model/blogger/designer, Audrey Kitching, is a busy women, and I’m always excited to see what new projects she’s coming out with next. Her latest endeavor is Crystal Cactus, a shop offering bath salts, crystals, jewelry, and DIY crystal cactus kits (don’t worry, I didn’t know what they were either). Even if reiki-infused quartz rings aren’t really your thing, it’s worth a look. And if, like me, you’re not in the know, Audrey explicitly explains the significance and purpose of each item–“All of the stones have been cleansed in pure pink Himalayan salt, smudged, and encoded with a DNA-restoring healing frequency. This is the exact frequency used by genetic engineers throughout the world to repair the blueprint of life – DNA – the healthy core of which is a six-sided crystal of structured water.”–wait, what? Just go check it out…

Veronica MaKEUP

Last up is the new “Archie’s Girls” makeup collection by M.A.C. I’ve read comics all of my life, without shame, but the one love I always kind of kept under wraps was my love for Betty and Veronica comics. Apparently I never got the memo that said they’re not cool, whatever. But instead of going on in defense of my favorite comic duo, I’ll just say that I could be more excited to hear that M.A.C. was creating a line of cosmetics–one half of the colors Veronica-inspired, the other half Betty. I’ve always been a Veronica girl, so I was pleased to see her colors were all dark colors–deep reds and plums–and entirely complimentary to my primarily black wardrobe.
