The Fashion Elite of Anime and Manga

September 18, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

My nerd interests are almost as big a part of my life as fashion is, so every once in a while I try to make the two worlds collide. I was perusing pics of characters from the manga Paradise Kiss–a series about young, aspiring fashion designers–when I got the idea that it might be fun to compile a list of the most stylish characters is anime and manga.

The idea was simple, but completing the task was somewhat more difficult than I expected. Keep in mind, this is not a list of the coolest looking characters, so no matter how badass a character’s appearance, if they live in the same uniform all series, they’re not in the running. And granted, this is a short list and far from complete, but hey, consider it a start. (more…)

WNGTOBWFA Cosplay Dance Party

July 29, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

Friday night I got a bunch of friends together and we had our “We’re Not Going To Otakon But We’re Fun Anyway” dance party. It was a small, pretty casual hangout–just a handful of people drinking bubble tea and dancing to anime theme songs and DDR remixes–but it was pretty awesome to see the costumes everyone came up with.

The previous weekend, I hosted a craft night at my apartment. I got started on my Balzac-lyric-emblazoned face mask and my friend effortlessly created an Espeon (it’s a Pokemon, for all you non-nerds) hoodie in just a few hours.

Cosplay Dance Parties and VK Kids

July 18, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

I was considering going to Otakon–a big cosplay and anime convention in Baltimore, Maryland–but plans ended up changing and I’ll be sticking around my town. But instead of getting bummed about missing out on maid cafes and cross-dressing panels, my friends and I are having a cosplay dance party the day of. And really, so long as I have a reason to fashion some sort of grand outfit for the occasion, I’m pretty psyched about the alternative.

Wizard World Philly: Cosplay, Cosplay, And More Cosplay

June 7, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

It had been about three years since the last time I went to the Wizard World Comic Con in Philly, and to tell you the truth I have no idea what I was doing all that time, thinking I could do without my annual nerd fix. I dearly missed making friends with indie artists, witnessing impromptu light saber battles, and primping in the ladies room next to various Naruto characters.

Tequila Star Couture

Any Sailor Moon fans out there? I’m always looking for ways to merge my love of cartoons and comics with my love of fashion, and this Moon Princess necklace by Tequila Star Couture was the perfect find–a simple yet stunning portrayal of the brave celestial anime queen.

How I Plan to Wig Out

March 28, 2012 Posted by fashionvandals

If you refer to my last post, you’ll see that I was wearing a wig (man, I wish my real hair was that long). I used to wear wigs all the time in high school, and once again they’re slowly becoming something of an obsession of mine. So far I have two natural-looking human hair wigs but I’m also looking to pick up something more outlandish–especially considering the upcoming comic conventions I plan to attend and hopefully cosplay at. Let me show you some of the wigs that’ve caught my eye…

Need Halloween Inspiration? Those Cosplayers Know What’s Up.

October 26, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

If you happen to follow me on Twitter, you may have seen me rant about how anime/gaming culture and fashion are constantly fighting it out for my attention. That being said, as soon as Halloween rolls around, I find myself looking to the many skilled cosplayers around the world for ideas and inspiration.

Model of the Week: Vera Chimera

June 27, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

Vera is a 20-year-old model and cosplayer who lives in Australia. I really am a sucker for cosplay, because I was sold as soon as I caught a glimpse of her epic Xenosaga shoot (for you non-nerds out there, I’m referring to the first image).

Hell Yeah, This Year’s Killer Swimwear

June 3, 2011 Posted by fashionvandals

On the heels of Memorial Day, I figured it was time to put together my top pics for Summer swimwear. Yeah I know, it’s a bit stripe-heavy…but check out the others. The subtle tears and tatters on the black Heavy Red bikini and the killer anime chick one piece from Black Milk are awesome enough to actually make me want to swim… Click the picture to check our where you can get each suit.

Model of the Week: Melodie Gore

Check out Melodie Gore…model and visual artist whose focus is apparently on creating erotic fantasy characters mainly through costume and makeup. She also happens to be a GodsGirl, anime enthusiast (which you can tell in some of the pictures below), and an EMT in Los Angeles. You can check out more photos, and some of her own work on her website.
