Halloween for Everyone! Recommendations for Every Costuming Type

October 17, 2013 Posted by rissvandal

Happy October, everyone! I hope you’ve been enjoying Fall and that your Halloween preparations are well under way. To tell you the truth, I haven’t really been taking as much time as usual to really soak in the season. Maybe it’s because this month has been so busy for me–every weekend I’m out of town, most weekdays I’m running around setting up shoots for my special Halloween photoset (more about that later). Or maybe it’s because I can’t eat candy, or because making costumes is no longer a grand, once-a-year type of thing in my life. Whatever it is, I hope to get in the spirit this weekend when I take in the beautiful sites of the country, visit a notable haunted house attraction (Easter State Penitentiary in Philly), and hopefully eat lots of pumpkin stuff. That should do it, right? Maybe? I hope?

Now let’s talk the serious stuff of the season–costumes. If you haven’t chosen your costume yet, what are you doing and how can you be so casual? If you’re still debating, let me give you a couple of recommendations, hopefully help to guide you in the right direction. How the heck have I gone this long without bringing vampires onto the blog? I have no idea. Recently I’ve been having a lot more fun dressing up dudes than chicks, so I vamped one up to model some of my necklaces.

Me and my model, DJ Laury, headed to a sketchy abandoned building in a cemetery for these pics—though I wasn’t trying to be ultra-creepy, I just like the building. And as far as I know he’s not wearing any Lip Service, but a couple of times he reminded me that he didn’t want to end up looking like one of the awkward male Lip Service models. I love Lip Service, but seriously, check out their male models–super awkward.

Black Milk and Bones in the Dark Forest

October 7, 2012 Posted by rissvandal

I finally scored myself a pair of Black Milk leggings from their recent Sick Puppies collection, and if I could actually get away with it in all situations, I’d basically never take them off. I picked up their striking “Bone Machine 2.0” design, and in addition to being lovely, they’re also incredibly damn comfortable.

I was set on finding a pair of bone pants that I could wear without looking like I was specifically dressed up for Halloween, and I think I lucked out with these.
